The Gift of Worship

SO IT'S BEEN A WHILE...

Hey guys. I know that it's been a couple of weeks since I've last posted anything. Sorry for the delay as there have been many other things to tend to in the time being.

A Call to Press In and On...

As always...I love to commend you all by thanking God for His working in you and through you all from week to week. I'm so grateful to be apart of a loving and encouraging group of people with the choir and the band, not to mention the church as a whole. You guys may not realize just how much of an impression that you make in Christ's Church as well as the many visitors to Grace from which I/we have received wonderful encouragement.

It seems that each week God teaches me something new to chew on, and it's not always easy to swallow. Through strivings and wrestlings within, we often come across people (or their writings at least) who seem to be used by God to tell us exactly what we need to hear at that moment. I really enjoy being able to pass these things along as I'm learning daily. One of my favorite leaders of today as well as a prominent lead worshiper is Bob Kauflin, Worship Matters.
He wrote an article a year ago that I came across today. It really is a great reminder of our call as Christ Followers to press into Him and into His word as we press on to be like Him. As a musician, it's so easy for me to forget about preparation for His Great Kingdom...Wayne shared in Ephesians this Sunday about the FULL ARMOR that we should be wearing. I think this paragraph from Bob Kauflin especially hits on the belt of truth which holds the "double-edged sword".

As Christian musicians we should know more than anyone that the joy music brings is only the faintest whisper of the superior joy we find in Jesus Christ. And we come to know Him most clearly and authoritatively through His Word. No fugue, guitar solo, piano sonata, jazz improv, or harmonic progression will ever speak to us more clearly about who God is and what He’s done.

That’s why every Christian musician should seek to be a good theologian. We should study the Word of God, read books that challenge us, and seek out authors that provide firm boundaries to our affecting, but often vague, thoughts about God.

I’ve wondered at times what would happen if church musicians sought to handle the word of truth as effectively as they handle their instruments. I can't predict exactly what would happen, but I'm certain that the effect on the worship of God's people would be very, very good.

We have such a GREAT GOD that we worship! I want to challenge you this week to read Isaiah 40. It's such a great, truthful reminder of God's unfathomable GREATNESS. We have had a wonderful reminder this past Sunday, August 12th, to reflect and pursue a Kingdom-focused life. Doesn't that seem so overwhelming? As you read Isaiah 40 with me, would you pray for me as I pray for you that we all together will have our hearts fixed on Him and His Kingdom? Make sure you listen and watch this clip I posted after you read Isaiah 40. I think it sums up the "big picture"

WITH GOD...WE DID IT ONCE AGAIN!

It has certainly been an honor these past few weeks leading with you guys! What an encouragement it is to see and hear God move through our voices and instruments! I have to tell you that I'm learning more and more each day what it's about to enjoy and savor Him, and He's using you guys to teach that truth. I came across a very interesting and encouraging reading the other day and wanted to share it with you. I found 9 goals in which I'd personally like to strive in order to gain a unified pursuit of worship, and I encourage you to check these out as well:

We've got some new updates to our page that I'm very excited about! If you'll direct your attention to upper right hand corner of the page, you'll see "Sites Worth Visiting". By clicking on Grace Worshipcast, you'll be able to listen to the songs for this Sunday. This link will be updated on a weekly basis as each week's order changes. You have a few options: You can either listen to the songs directly on the page by clicking, "listen", or you can subscribe to this podcast if you are an I-Tunes user. Please let me know if you have any problems with the page--songs not working, page not loading, etc. I'm still working out glitches as I speak.

WELCOME!!!

As you can see, you are welcomed to the new site for upcoming info and most importantly encouragement from the ministry of worship and music established at Grace Baptist Church. After a time of praying how to convey upcoming info, thoughts, plans, encouragement, etc., this has become a great resource for current communication. Bear with me as this page will evolve each week for a while.

I wanted to start off with telling you all that I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday, July 8th. It's a special day to me because it's my One Year Anniversary to Lauren Watson!!! How incredible is that? I can only boast in the Father for giving me a great partner in crime. Now after saying that...my real purpose for this is to update you on the line up for this Sunday morning: Be here at 8:45--NOT 8:46.

A new update for our Wednesday rehearsals: We are going to meet at 6:30pm from now on (starting July 11) as the band will be joining us during our rehearsals!!! The band will meet at 5:30pm and prepare for the choir rehearsal at 6:30. Please be diligent to be there on time. Thank you so much for your patience.

We worship a Holy and Sovereign God who has plans way beyond our expectations, timing, or understanding.
